Barr Brothers at Cafe 939 TONIGHT!

Post: # 24351Post booher »

Any of you folk going? I can never find any friends to go with, so I might be flying solo if there are still tickets left (sales end at 6). One gripe: What's with the $3 charge for will call?

Guess no one went  I missed Jocie's opener unfortunately, as I had an appointment that set me back.

Setlist as best as I can remember:

Beggar
Old Myths
Give the Devil
Deacon's Son
Kisses/Chelsea
Sarah Story/Wall
Devil's Harp (with Mike Irwin on trumpet....not sure what it's called...it's a basically a deeper trumpet, but not sure if it's "baritone")
Can't Keep/Cryin'
Darkness
If You Leave me (Heartbreaker tease)
Let Me Let it Go (w/ Jocie)
E:
Cloud (With Mike Irwin, Jocie Adams, another friend I can't remember on violin)

Might be missing one or two in there. Set was about an hour and a half long. Kinda bummed the encore was one song, too, but it was a very nice rendition.

Overall, same great stuff. Brad and Andrew made some jabs about getting faculty to send them and Sarah a degree from Berk. They asked if there were any Berklee students in the audience, and no one as much as raised a hand. I did see Marc, however, so there's one other former student :D

great show, they just sound so good. I missed Jocie's set too, was drinking across the hall at the Cactus club with some friends, there was no alcohol allowed in the venue. I saw the band eating dinner in the Cactus Club before the show and noticed an older gentlemen with them that I didnt recognize. Before "Give the Devil Back His Heart" Brad said "we just had the best dinner ever, Al Kooper bought us our meal". pretty cool. That super session album with Stephen Stills & Mike Bloomfield is the shit. Anywho, Booher had the right songs but a little out of order, so for those anal retentive setlist junkies out there...

1: (92 min) Beggar in the Morning, Old Mythologies, Give the Devil Back his Heart, Kisses from Chelsea, Deacon's Son, The Devil's Harp*, Sarah story > Sarah Through the Wall, Lord I Just Cant Keep from Cryin', Darkness, Please Let me Let it Go**, If You Leave Me
E: Cloud***
* with Mike Irwin, trumpet. ** With Jocie, clarinet & Mike. *** with Jocie, Mike and girl on violin

I was keeping track up until Kisses from Chelsea, then started to forget. Thanks! Boy was that place packed though. It was actually pretty nice to have an alcohol free show, too, I must say.

I agree, although it was packed it was a really quiet, attentive audience. perfect for this kind of show with all the different dynamics the band has

Excellent show! Hope to get some pics and write-up up at www.whatilikeissounds.blogspot.com this weekend. Btw, "Girl on violin" was Laura Cortese. Great player, too bad she didn't really get to step out. Was thrilled to see her and Charlie Rose (banjo, pedal steel) on stage with Jocie but that set really wasn't about solos, was it... The Brothers sounded great, and it was excellent to have the guests up for Cloud. Good stuff. Anyone tape??
