Barr Bros Oct 18 - La Tulipe Montreal

Post: # 24297Post lucasdavidsamuels »

Anyone make it to this last night in Montreal?

I know they covered Neil Young's 'Dont Let It Bring You Down'
and I know Plants and Animals joined them on stage for something.

Trying to sniff out more/all details/setlist

Please be assured that after seeing these fellas for over a decade now, it must be understood that the following statements are made in earnest and without hesitation.

I was there and I was witness to one of the most inspired, exceptionally performed shows of theirs that I have ever seen. It was righeous. It was a completely honest effort, flawless, relaxed, and above all, creatively genius.

It was like I was watching a group of musicians, Brad and Andrew especially, who have finally realized the potential we have all been touting.

They were the headliner. It was sold-out. It was full to the titties with brand-new faces and lots of our francophone friends who understand the universal language of incredible music.

Setlist forthcoming, but suffice to say, there were tons of new arrangements to make it fresh, and a new tune featuring Sarah and Andrew on vocals, with Sarah on acoustic, and Andrew on a ukulele/mandolinishy instrument. The guitarists for P&A sat in for a few tunes, as well as members of TLA, who also sang an a cappella tune with the Barrs' band. 'Cloud' was the opener and it had a quasi-psychedelic intro. The tackle-box guitar also made and appearance, and the passing of the thread schtick was done as well. 'Dont Let It Bring You Down' was a special treat and featured all of TLA and the dudes from P&A.

Anyway, I wish I could offer more of a synopsis, but the early 5:30 wake-up call this morning made it quite difficult to have serious listen afterwards. I will offer up some more details this eveing perhaps.

Stay tuned for the link to the recording I made.

jah bless

Video of most of Kisses From Chelsea http://vimeo.com/30825161

That setlist looks unreal. I was following some of the show on Twitter and hearing that the Cloud intro was very trippy, 'Pulse' like.

Really excited to hear this recording, this band is the real deal. I watched an interview that said they have 3 records to make with Secret City, and already a full albums worth to record after this long tour.

So happy the guys are getting the recognition they deserve.
I smell a Polaris Prize for them in 2012.

They really are exploding right now, from what it seems. I can't believe that they have that much material ready

So happy to see all the press these guys are getting- given the audience on this forum, i need not explain how well deserved it is. i was wondering who is running the facebook account for them, it would be nice to get that person to post the setlists through out the upcoming tour. i know of a few bands (wilco comes to mind) that have been doing this on a daily basis and its a great way to track the tour.

anyone going to CMJ shows? i am heading over to the Apple Store show tonight.

TLA indeed opened the show and they played for about an hour. It was quite subdued and complete with a Cohen cover. They have brought along a trumpet player to add some different flavour. By the end of their set I am sure I counted 15 different instruments being changed hands, including cell phones.

That's interesting because last time I saw these bands play together it was the Barr's opening up for the Low Anthem. I wonder if this was because the Barr Brothers were the hometown team?
