For those of you that may have not found it yet, there is a new board style that semi mimics the old Slip graffiti page. You can switch to it by going into your profile and selecting "Graffiti" for your board style. This is a work in progress so check it out and post your comments, suggestions, complaints, and praises here.
Yes Pat, we know it's a lot of red!

Looks good. One minor complaint though. Maybe it's because I'm in the midle of reading The Plot Against America (Phillip Roth) but the "Who's Online" image looks a little swastika-ish to me....especially with the red and black color scheme.
"It’s not like rock and roll was invented by the people who play it right. Rock and roll was invented by lunatics. It belongs at the end of the day to lunatics. It doesn’t belong to people to prove their muscularity." - Marc Ribot
i wouldnt put too much thought into this; it certainly wasnt done to get that affect (or effect). if a us navel base (san diego) can look like one, a little old message board shouldnt sound any alarms either, right?mjm wrote:Looks good. Board Style is cool
Hey Jeff,
This is a monumental design style and I for one know the great deal of work that goes into it. I like the musical staffs and the spinning logos, and the overall cohesiveness. I use this as my main style now and I'm very grateful for your hard work.
Now can you other jokers lay off the swastikas and talk about the style design? It takes many many hours to do something like this and any feedback is very helpful. Think about layout and look 'n' feel...you see any strange lines or other artifacts? Frankly, I think it looks great in Firefox...haven't had any problems with it. I like the drop-down Navigator, too.
Alright, Jeff...maybe you can help some bands re-do their sites, too?
You know, Jeff puts red back in vogue!

You may remember (although, why would you) that I posted a while back about the board loading incredibly slow on my machine even though I had just gotten broadband access. This was the only site giving me problems and I seemed to be the only one with these problems.
What I don't think I ever mentioned is that I was using the Graffiti style, which I loved, even though sometimes the fonts wouldn't load and I'd get the whole page in Courier or some other default font.
Today, on a whim, I tried loading other styles and the board is suddenly screaming fast.
Thought I'd let you know.

Slip radio nearly gone
Now that we don't get hammered by the many radio users, the bandwidth has slimmed down over 90%. So we'll be faster now and if you cache all your graphics, your response should be under a second.
Once in a while we do still get outages (maybe an hour a month)...probably due to backups or other maintenance. I'll check out Site5 when the lease is up in a year. They seem on the ball.
