recommend some good beer for me this weekend...

It's football season again.. and there has not been a sunday yet that Pam and I have not drank... and we ran out of beer so we need to get some...

make some suggestions.... preferably not too expensive (i.e. above $30)... also.. curious as to see what peoples favorites are... Also.. Pam likes wheat beers.. but that's not a criteria... thanks!!

Lancaster brewing company... They also make a really good milk stout...

1/3 strawberry wheat + 2/3 milk stout= chocolate covered strawberry...
Pam loves it... I'm indifferent about it... but I like them both by themselves a lot...

I think I am leaning toward the troegs variety pack this weekend.. or maybe just get faced off a case of troegenator...

Stone baby, any kind of it ...or if you can get a hold of some Ballast point, that's a definite treat too! And these are both brewed in San Diego, CA (hafta give my hometown props here)

If you do get your hands on the Stone be VERY VERY CAREFUL, it's like a loaded gun.

don't beleive I've ever seen either of them... but higher alcohol beer is nothing new to me.. we used to get Blithering Idiots (from weyerbacher) which is 11.9% and the big dog in thier heavy hitter case.... I'll keep my eyes out though.. and there is nothing wrong with rooting for the home team!

How about an Octoberfest? (Harpoon is my favorite). 'tis the season. I actually stumbled across a 'pumpkin' beer at my local co-op last week. (Shipyard from Maine, it was like a pumpkin pie flavored malt beverage... strangely tasty.)

I'll admit I'm one of those girls who actually prefers beer to mixed drinks, but I'm picky and prefer micro-brews. Some of my favorites are local VT brews, which are pretty easy to find throughout NY and New England but probably haven't reached their way in wide distribution to you yet, Pat. But, in case you come across them, my favorites are Wolaver's Organic and the Long Trail seasonal beers. The Wolaver's Brown is my favorite, the Oatmeal Stout is the only stout I've ever really liked (other than chocolate stouts). Wolaver's is made by Otter Creek brewing, but I tend to like it better than the darker/heavier beers they produce under the Otter Creek label. And you may actually be able to find it in natural/organic food stores like Whole Foods, which are starting to widely distribute it, since it's one of the few that's 100% organic. Long Trail has a 'Blackbeary Wheat' summer beer which I bet Pam would like. The winter season Harvest and Hibernator are both good too (a lot of flavor but not too dark/heavy) and the original 'Long Trail Ale' has the widest distribution. Magic Hat is probably the most widely distributed beer from VT, but living in Burlington you get sick of it, especially #9.... but I still really enjoy Blind Faith and the summer wheat Hocus Pocus every once in a while. And now you know what to try if you ever find yourself at show in VT.

Thanks Katie.. unfortunately.. I can't just run out to the grocery store and get beer.. PA's got fucked up alcohol laws.. so I gotta go to a distro... I have seen otter creeks.. and I might have even seen the wolaver's..

I have seen a blueberry stout.. and I have also seen a pumpkin... blue moon's pumpkin is out now.. but I don't know about flavored beers sometimes.. it all depends.. oh and really all we drink is microbrews.. we're snobs... I think my natty ice days went out with my schwag days... ya know... Thanks for the tips Katie!

so I got a case of Buffalo Bills Pumpkin Ale (which is supposed to be awesome... got 2 in the freezer right now to chill them quick...)

they had both the wolaver's and the otter creek.. plus I looked at a couple other variety packs from various breweries... but we decided to go with the pumpkin ale.. as I've never had one.. and a couple people told me they were good.. especially the buffalo bill's... I'll keep you all posted!

An amber style ale, originally brewed by George Washington, brewed with fresh roasted pumpkins, malted barley. Cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg are added.

Yeah, whenever I'm down in those parts, I always drink Yeungling. It's simple, but real tasty. I like the lager.
