I like them - I think both Brad and Nathan are fans as well.

Anyway, figured I share this article -

yeah, they are definitely cool cats. i got to know both the band and their music pretty well when I did the Northeast SMMD tour last April. Ran into both Ben and Jocie at the Paradise show last week too.
As far as their music goes, the slow stuff breaks my heart. just beautiful and I love the instrumentation. However on OMGCD they wrote a couple upbeat barroom bluesy rock tracks ("Horizon is a Beltway", "Home I'll never be") which i can't get into at all. That said, they are from Providence, my current city, and are the front runners in the brilliant folk scene we got brewing here. So I obviously wish them the very best....

istened to the two shows i could find of theirs on archive... very interesting stuff! powerful harmonies, interesting intrumentation (how many players are there, anyways?). some tunes are reminiscent of tom waits, others are like the pogues. any more out there? good stuff...

As Bear has hinted, I am a Low Anthem fan. They get me with their simplicity and tenderness, their honesty and presence, their sensitivity and their neighborliness. They are comedians, individuals, diligent workers, whiskey drinkers, and fine human beings. And at least one of them makes an epic chicken with capers.

OMGCD is a great record. As someone else mentioned, I can do without the Tom-Waits-ish rockers, but the rest of the stuff is great - some of it really gorgeous and impressive.

The lyrics and vocal performance on the song "Charlie Darwin" make it an especially beautiful piece, to me anyway:

Charlie Darwin - by The Low Anthem (listen here: http://www.myspace.com/lowanthem)

Set the sails I feel the winds a’stirring

Toward the bright horizon set the way

Cast your wreckless dreams upon our Mayflower

Haven from the world and her decay

And who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin

Fighting for a system built to fail

Spooning water from their broken vessels

As far as I can see there is no land

Oh my god, the waters all around us

Oh my god, it’s all around

And who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin

The lords of war just profit from decay

And trade their children’s promise for the jingle

The way we trade our hard earned time for pay

Oh my god, the waters cold and shapeless

Oh my god, it’s all around

Oh my god, life is cold and formless

Oh my god, it’s all around
