Well, it's a long story, but we have our fun here, and that's what matters. We find our main Slip links here (upper right). This is more of a fan portal, which was its original intent. I'd say we've come a long way, but the random poetry was nice. We are not a corporate entity, so it is completely a grass roots effort (I even registered sliplive.org to support that point). I think that's a good thing...seems to work and keeps it "casual" (laughs, takes a sip).

Certainly the old Graffiti had its place and time -- maybe some day we'll have the courage and incentive to resurrect it, but for what purpose? To preserve history? To save gems of wisdom? To resurrect demons of selfish animosity? I would not consider just restoring the old board (what backups I have...not sure of how close to the end time that is...certainly not all of it). It would take a mountain of work to restore the "good" posts. I've thought about this. It is not easy. We only have so many coders (about 3 of every 100) and those who care to do work versus those who talk about it are fewer and farther between (hard to work for no pay, which is likely the primary factor).

Thanks for the compliment: (this site is) not like it's not well maintained. I guess that means it's well-maintained. :)

P.S.: This is an interesting thread because humans have a penchant for reliving their past. This increases as we get older (resist that temptation!). I think working towards the future means not repeating the mistakes of the past, so in the general historical sense it's important to know the past. This would be the main reason I'd dig up the old bones, but what if it's some kind of zombie creature that infects the current board? Is it worth the risk??? There might be something in all that random jibberish that expands into a sort of board virus that over time just gets worse. I don't know enough about computers to know that is definitely *not* possible.

for old times sake...

words were posted
replys were written
sentiments exploded, blew over, rekindled
ashes of one past
may fertilize our next garden,
but what should we plant,
now that the chance is given.

old faces, old aliases, old meters,
same old story struggles,
new avitars, same red board,
same voices, new words.

perhaps time takes care of forgiveness
perhaps we have taken care of each other
perhaps old wounds sometimes need to open
if only so they can reheal cleanly

there is not one voice i have heard here or there
that has not at least tried to ring true
among all these voices,
i cherish every last one of you...

so.... farewell to silly meter
farewell to masks, mistakes and mistakings.

peace to all that comes before us,
peace fill the time that wakes to greet us,
peace be in the core of each new word written...
and we'll meet, i know,
be it in joy or in sorrow,
to dance again all together soon
in a sunnier tomorrow...
