Break up Music

So I was thinking, What are some peoples favorite breakup songs. Songs that make you break down and just sit in your own filth, or songs that have inspiration to move on...

Under the Bridge makes me think of 7th grade dances and 7th grade crushes

and I still don't like to hear it because I think of one girl in particular.....

"The Last Ride" by Todd Rundgren. When the second lead guitar comes in at the coda, you can just feel the hearts breaking.....

I just went thru a divorce...I know breakup music well lately..
the perfect breakup mixed tape:

it ain't me babe-bob dylan
learning the blues-holiday/gilespie
he wants me back (but he cant have me)-dancehall crashers
these boots are made for walkin-nancy sinatra
maybe i'm a fool-aretha franklin
satisfied-the replacements
nellie jean-the slip
forever-ben harper
walk away-ben harper
i had my chance-morphine
gone for good-morphine
changed the locks-lucinda williams
can't let go-lucinda williams
full grown-JSBX

and the list goes on and on and on and on....

wallow wallow wallow but then fight back and go out in the world and kick ass..it's the best revenge ever!!

Keep the positive memories...and then once you meet someone even better...it's on!

Then you can make the happier than all hell mixed tapes! :D

Prayer to God - Shellac
To the one true God above:
here is my prayer -
not the first you've heard, but the first I wrote.
(not the first, but the others were a long time ago).
There are two people here, and I want you to kill them.
Her - she can go quietly, by disease or a blow
to the base of her neck,
where her necklaces close,
where her garments come together,
where I used to lay my face...
That's where you oughta kill her,
in that particular place.
Him - just fucking kill him, I don't care if it hurts.
Yes I do, I want it to,
fucking kill him but first
make him cry like a woman,
(no particular woman),
let him hold out, hold back
(someone or other might come and fucking kill him).
Fucking kill him.
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Just fucking kill him! Fucking kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.
Ah Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Kill him already, kill him already
Kill him, fucking kill him.
Just fucking kill him, fuckin kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fuckin kill him, kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.

Kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him, just fucking kill him.
Kill them already, kill them already,
Kill him.
Amen.
When my girlfriend let me for my best friend's older brother two years ago, this was very fitting.

Turn out all the lights, light a single candle, and put on:

Songs of Leonard Cohen - his first album

When my apartment-mates came home and heard that record on, they'd hide the knives.

On the new Tom Waits record, the second disc Bawlers, just kills you one sad song after another. It's dangerous stuff if you are not strong enough emotionnally... The world keeps turning in particular is so moving. "On our anniversary, there'll be someone else where you use to be, the world don't care yet it clings to me and the moon is gold and silvery..." And If I Have to Go too. Check it out!

The man can write a sad song...

Ani Difranco's "untouchable face" does it for me

"think i'm going for a walk now
i feel a little unsteady
i don't want nobody to follow me
'cept maybe you
i could make you happy you know
if you weren't already
i could do a lot of things
and i do

tell you the truth i prefer
the worst of you
too bad you had to have a better half
she's not really my type
but i think you two are forever
and i hate to say it but
you're perfect together

..so fuck you
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much.. "

weak...

Song for the Dumped
Ben Folds Five

So you wanted to take a break
Slow it down some and have some space
Well fuck you too!

Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
I want my money back

Wish I hadn't bought you dinner
Right before you dumped me on your front porch

Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
I want my money back
... and don't forget my black T-shirt

"Tell Me Why" on After the Goldrush by Neil Young

Sailing heart-ships
thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night
Still the searcher
must ride the dark horse
Racing alone in his fright.
Tell me why, tell me why

Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?

Tell me lies later,
come and see me
I'll be around for a while.
I am lonely but you can free me
All in the way that you smile
Tell me why, tell me why

Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?

Tell me why, tell me why
Tell me why, tell me why

If you have never listened to this album then you need to... such raw emotion and despair... in my opinion Neil's best effort. "Birds" is another heartbreaker on this album too.
