That's kind of a random thought -- but . . .

Are you Kidding?

The Stones' version is way better -- no one in Phish can sing with anywhere near as much soul, style, and gusto as Jagger! Plus it's one of the Stones' more swingin, punchy, and funky soundin tunes -- a gem!

Go ahead and compare em by clicking on "listen" here:

Anyone else with me?

i disagree with bitchtits.

I actually heard the Phish version first, and I definitely think it rocked. But no band could ever play that song better than the Stones. It's impossible. Can't be done.

The Phish version is pretty good, I admit. It's especially nice to have a guitar solo and jam-exploration at the end.

However, the overall feel and soul just isn't there. And Paige's handling of the bridge/interlude ("I feel so humble with you tonight, Just sitting in front of the fire . . . ") is sour and almost ruins the whole tune!

Cool to hear My Morning Jacket's version, too -- hadn't heard that one before! Still doesn't touch the Stones.

would love to hear MMJ's version

Phish's version kicks fucking ass, anytime you had a Lovin' Cup encore you were psyched, if you don't agree, you're wrong. period

The Stones version kicks mucho ass, maybe even moreso than Phish. But while I've never seen the stones perform it before, I've seen Phish play it probably 20 times and I was always psyched to hear it.
