My Space

Post: # 9147Post Cleantone »

I have been resisting it for a long time now. I recently grabbed Cleantone before one of my imposters did. I have had 4 views and a friend request from a 14 year old girl. All without one tidbit of infomation added to my myspace account. WTF?!?!? It's been a long time sinc eI have denied a 14 year old girl. That is half my age!!!

Me too, mostly because I think there are some people out there who just don't need to find me.

But last weekend I went to a HS reunion and saw some people I hadn't seen in ages, who wanted to keep in touch, and said 'oh yeah, just find me on myspace...' Eeek. Can't believe it's come down to contemplating creating a myspace account just to keep in touch with old friends. Oh well. Can't hold out forever.

MySpace Movie is a riot!

Post: # 9163Post Phrazz »

Thanks for the feed, Pat...that's a hilarious short. Makes you think.

As for the publicity thing, I found some very dear friends I haven't seen in a long time, so overall it's a good thing. With portals, there's always going to be a prowler factor. You can lock your MySpace so only friends can get to it. I'm not too worried myself, but I can see how women should be more careful. I think MySpace is less "conservative" that Friendster and has all the porn stars and all that crap, but some of these are jokes (others are real people who just have those kinds of jobs ;-}).

Now some people are reluctant about the whole thing, if you value your privacy more than the ability to let old friends track you down, these portals are not for you. You can always make a private web space (with login if you want), or setup your own bboard, whatever.

Cleantone--MySpace is loaded with musicians and recording engineers, so I would think you could use that to your advantage. You can use your home page here to advertise, just put the link on MySpace. Sometime you gotta bite the bullet and all sorts of crazy bands will want to be your friend, but all you have to pick and choose and it's easy to just deny these requests. I found a couple bands I liked, but most are too grungy or metal for my taste.

Now everyone here has Googled themselves, right? ;-}

Pat, you're welcome.

Yeah, I went to my (belated) 5-year. There was a marked absence of the art & music geeks I still keep in touch with, but I was one of those kids who took all the honors and AP classes with the same group of people every year... and hadn't seen them in ages. And they always show up to those things; it's where the nerds get their revenge. It was a bit strange though. Not sure if I'd do it again. But they even made a myspace page for our class to post updates and stuff. So weird.

I agree with Phrazz though, myspace has advantages for business networking, especially since in really caught on with people in music.

That's the exact reason I wanted to go.. ya know.. be like.. oh.. you're on welfare to feed your 3 bastard kids... huh... where's your football letterman jacket now!!! HUH?!!! Sorry...

yeah... the networking is actually really great... I just recently joined a band in pittsburgh (check them out Fourth River) and a lot of the local Pittsburgh bands have myspace sites... plus we have flidop.com (our own little community music page) but it's cool....

Chloe started a new trend for me. It is having people request/recieve my myspace friendship without me adding aone bit of data to my account. I'm under the obvious cleantone. Go ahead and send me a note if you like. I'll add you to my friends. Maybe someday I'll get around to putting info on my profile. :x

when i first checked out myspace, it was because my friend tre (formerly of the pharcyde) told me it was an excellent networking site. however, when i went on his page, and looked at his friends, they were 75% naked women. i thought "what the hell is he talking about?" and "GROSS" and why in the world did he direct me here? i actually was stunned at first and felt weird about it. i imagined it must be a hip-hop site.

well, i looked around much further and realized myspace contained every niche in the world.

you can find people doing anything and everything: health, spirituality, any kind of music, tons of independent music and film, artists, etc etc etc.........

so if you are feeling weird or hesitant about joining, realize it's probably because you have a limited idea of what it is.

of course, if you have no desire to connect to anyone via the internet, there's no reason to do it.

quick question clinton... is it not leading you through a step where you have to approve or deny (oh god i hate calling it this cause it should be a measure of much more than what the internet says) "friends", cause it should and if it isn't, i don't know much about the site but you're a smart lad and it might have something to do with your privacy settings... if not, well, hand me the blame, i don't mix well with electronics in general and it wouldn't be the first time i've inexplicably had some strange effect on someone else's hardware (that sounds bad but you know what i mean)

there's a lot about myspace that creeps me out but a) i have adhd and it's been a nice tool for remembering who i've forgotten to keep in touch with (isn't that sad...) b) every now and then it's nice to be able to say, hey, nice seeing you or hey we should get together from the lazy seat in front of your computer (don't worry, as your "friend" i won't be posting crazy animated s&%t all over your page and i truly only rarely even message people privately, and if i do it's usually to get an phone # or e-mail that i've long since lost). c) uhh... i forgot what c was. d) you can always remove "friends", not that i've had need but i looked it up because well, why not, and it says that you can. 5. it can be good for publicity and networking, i felt really really really stupid at first but then i realized that yes, by putting people in my top 8 (god i hate that concept too) there will surely be some random people surfing myspace like the waste of time it is who will come across something they might not have and might look up a band who deserves to be listened to and that might lead to something good in the real world, so half friends, half free publicity for my friends, isn't such a bad thing, yes i had to rationalize it that deeply before doing the whole myspace thing to begin with, the whole place just reeks of a strange post-modern popularity contest, though i have reconnected with some ancient friends so with every bad some good i guess...

anyways, sorry... i broke your myspace cherry and i know it, but hopefully you'll get something good out of the whole freaky deal.

and i won't post it as a comment with a picture or some wierd cartoon, but it was really nice to see you the other night, we live in the same state and it's sad that i see you so rarely.

take care everyone
