Wasn't this part of the plan? Phase troops out of Iraq, move them into Afghanistan.

Yeah, that was a part of his platform that I was never really on board with but it is not shocking. What is shocking is how far he has capitulated in so many ways. I was expecting him to get subsumed by the system to some extent but how thoroughly is really a testament to the momentum of the military/corporate/medical behemoth.

Obama has been arguing for this for a while. If you're going to fight "terrorism," it has to happen in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It's a success that we're actually getting OUT of Iraq. Now with full attention on Afghanistan, maybe we'll be out of there in five years or so.

War sucks, but we're in it. The only way to get out of it, is by actually trying. Bush/Cheney weren't even trying to get out of Afghanistan or Iraq.
