i love it when you hear a band for the first time and just know that you love the music. that just happened for me with Apollo Sunshine and their new album.

Anyone heard High Places' self-titled debut?

the new mccoy tyner album 'guitars' is great. ribot, frisell, trucks, scofield and bela fleck are all contributors. the trailer for the accompanying dvd is worth a view.

Recent obsessions

Chad Vangaalen - Soft Airplane (imagine Neil Young's voice over a one-man Pavement-esque band)

Juana Molina - Un Dia (Argentine singer-songwriter, folk meets ambient electronic)

Vivian Girls - s/t (a mix of shoegazey dream pop, surf rock, and punk, sorta Pixies-esque but prettier)

Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet - s/t (also features the aformentioned Bela Fleck, normally I don't go for bluegrass but this is great)

Love VanGaalen... his other two albums are definatley worth a listen to. ranges anywhere from jeff buckley-ish to arcade fire-ish to elliott-y, but definatley his own thing and very creative

Wow, just watched the trailer for the McCoy Tyner - Guitars and promptly ordered it on Amazon. I don't buy too many albums these days but that sure looks like a winner. I am a big fan of all of those musicians as well!

this is an old thread but this is worth it...

check out, if you can find, the live ryan adams sessions for easy tiger at avatar studios. holy moly. especially the song "magnolia mountain" with him and the tiger. there is some real fire here in this live performance.

oh, found it... part one and two... get it!
