Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

Post: # 16735Post tyler »

anyone else got this? opinions? personally i'm enjoying it. i suppose it's a step down since their last 2 or 3 albums were the sort of things that change the way you listen to music, but there's something to be said after all that for just putting out a solid set of quality tunes. which i suppose is why i like it so much, even if it's not going to change the world or earn unanimous acclaim. also, unlike most albums that go for a classic rock vibe, this one actually nails it. what's everyone else think?

It's wonderful to hear Nels Cline's influence on this album. He is an amazing guitarist. Interesting that he joined the band as an official member during the tour for Ghost is Born -- the second of two albums featuring a seriously avant garde direction to Tweedy's lead guitar work. Then Nels--an avant shredder--shows up to really take things to the next level. This album is great and like the previous two, there's a lot to discover on each successive listen. Enjoy!!

this album is really growing on me fast. i skimmed through the leaked copy a couple times and then heard the whole album a few times in succession at a listening party last monday. at first i thought it was ok, pretty mellow with only nel's guitar work standing out. it wasn't until the next night that i threw the lp on the turntable that each track really started to stand out on it's and own and floor me. i've been enjoying it increasingly ever since. two thumbs up!

oh yeah, the bonus dvd is pretty awesome too.

still anxiously waiting for my LP to arrive in the mail....Why don't I ever learn? I pre-order things, and then have them arrive post-release date...

pop the disc into your computer and find a file on it called "extras.mov". if you're on a pc this is best accomplished by going to my computer and right-clicking the cd drive and clicking on "Open", instead of double-clicking. (that may be obvious but it took me a while to figure out.)

I am not a serious Wilco fan but I listened to this the other day and really liked it. Nice earthy production and warm instrumental tones.

I can't stop listening to it. Thanks for the tip on the "Thanks I get". I like the organic sound of this disc. just 6 guys jammin in a room. No sound effects or loops (although I love when they do that too). I like how direct Tweedy is with his lyrics. Seems like rehab and overall interest in health has cleared the man's mind some.
"Either Way" is a wonderful opening track and "Walken" is growing on me. Lyrically its a song that every songwriter has written themselves while walking down the road at one point in time. I applaud Jeff for the courage to actually put his version on an album.

This is GREAT - thank you!!

The SBS songs are much better live.

I really like Sky Blue Sky, but Ghost Is Born is much better imho (SBS is one of my alltime fav discs tho). Ghost has much more depth and soul and is MUCH more interesting musically to my ears.

YHF is wilco's crowning achievement (in my opinion). there is nothing else that sounds like it - an absolute masterpiece. These new albums are good, but they're not breaking new ground like YHF did.
