Pickin on Percy

Post: # 16247Post bear »

If you havent alreay you should check out the Pickin on Percy section of Nathan's site. Torph and Brad have added some great tracks. I did "James Alley Blues" which is under the moniker Talking ABout Commas.

I have long wanted to do this, there are at least a few Nathan/Percy songs in my reptiore (sp?). I have little recording experience however. Do you just record it on a four track or a computer? Maybe if you gimme a few beginner tips you will get to hear your's truely singing songs written by one of the greats.

caleb, what type of tips do you mean. software, process, etc?

i use audacity for importing and editing my stuff. i use a ps-04 recorder but you can use a interface to record directly into audacity. most popular [and most expensive] is an Mbox.

Bear - nice work, the recording has a nice warm feeling to it, particularly when the keys start really coming in....I'm assuming you'll be in SF next weekend? See you then...

Ok so the only recording i have done is by running my guitar and mic through a boss RC-20 Looper that way i can get them on one cable and then running that cable into my computer (cringe) and recording with fruity loops. Highly amateur. What do i need to buy/dl to actually do this right?

Don't beat yerself up. There's nothing wrong with "amateur." (BTW, the RC-20 is a fine little box.)

There's tons of options as you start this adventure. Here's a thread from a while back that offers a few viewpoints on this topic:

Not all of it will apply to your situation, but it might trigger some ideas for you. Enjoy!

i'm a huge fan of bear's track and brad's 'yeahy yeahy'. i should also mention the fact that bear (correct me if i'm wrong, dude)recorded the guitar track with a cast on one hand...

There's a couple of tunes that I thought I'd try. Maybe I'll complete one this weekend. What a great idea for his site.
