Beggar In The Morning
by Brad Barr / The Barr Brothers

Steady woman, won't you come on down
I need you right here on the ground
I've walked the outskirts of this town
Been terrified by what I’ve found

I saw a standing virgin bride
Where holy Dionysus died
She tore the heart from his side
And laid it there, and there she cried

oh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

She said "Hello I'm a monster, too,
And what poisons me is what poisons you
Into these animals we grew
But when we were young our eyes were blue"

I take my medicine on my knee
twice a day, but lately three
it keeps the devil from my door
And it makes me rich, and it makes me poor

I'm a beggar in the morning
I'm a king at night
My belt is loose and my trigger is tight
I may come without warning
At the speed of light
Make it shine so pretty, make it shine so bright

I have come a long long way
To stand before you here today
They're yours alone the songs I play
To take with you to throw away

oh oh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Oh I want an angel to wipe my tears
Know my dreams, my hopes, desires and fears
We may capsize but we wont drown
Hold each other as the sun goes down

I'm a beggar in the morning
I'm a king at night
My belt is loose and my trigger is tight
I may come without warning
At the speed of light
Make it shine so pretty, make it shine so bright

Thanks for this, mystery transcriber!

I've been listening to this one a lot in the last month. I was going to take a try at it myself but this looks pretty good. I've also been hacking it out on guitar.

Ha. I spent all morning trying to figure out the line about Dionysus. The closest I got was "Where hold an eye and ice has died," which certainly made no sense. Thanks.

as far as guitar goes, anyone know if this is standard tuning? it sounds like it's in D, and I know brad uses CGCGCE a lot...I think it might be that tuning capo'd at 2nd fret...

a quote from brad from the other thread on this song:
The tuning for this song is DGDGBE. Its capoed at the 5th fret....so its in C major. There ya go. Play it! Spread it around !
using the above tuning, I play it something like this:

made a few adjustments to the verse on 2/2/11:

Code: Select all

(verse) 7/2?
A|-----------0---0|----------------|----------------|----------------|

E|-0-0-0-0--------|
C|-0-0-0-0--------|

note: I didn't really tab out the strumming pattern. Can anyone confirm what time signature this is in? I can't wrap my head around the numbers.

another note: I stumbled upon Zeppelin's Friends while fooling around at the end. just tune the high 1st string down a full step.

Big Bob - Thanks a ton! Loving it. If you ever feel like tabbing out the whole thing - I won't complain!

does anyone have the means to record a backing noise track like brad uses and upload it here?

he mostly creates those noise tracks ive i think, with his boomerang. I've worked out a version of this in standard tuning. not quite the same but it works for me.

just to add I think he uses an rc-20(maybe the xl version?) for its reverse looping too, on top of hte boomerang. Meant to check out brad's board at the boston show in december but didn't get to...saw he changed amps and all, got me curious. always loved his sound.
