Even Rats

I just checked the lyrics database for Even Rats... Here's what they have:

even the rats know the troubles gonna come
to the edge of the city, see the little guys run
spring.???? . mechanical????

The line "spring.???? . mechanical????" on the 2004-11-05 is most definately "spring is nice in Canada"... Which makes some sense, since the show they played in Montreal last spring 2004-05-27 was ridiculously good, and the weather was awesome... The boys have said they love Montreal, hopefully we will get a spring Canada show every year, especially since I now live two hours from there...

i swear, if they put even rats on the new album they'd better give rod stewart songwriting credit.

im sure they learned their lesson from the b.t.s. cover

the lips had to fork over some cash b/c 'fight test' was similar to a cat stevens song. didnt ask first, and now they fork out i think .33 per dollar for that song.

i think he's refering to the possibility of BAM having to pay royalties on 'else' since they released it on the 'with love' comp.

as for rod stewart, listen to 'some guys have ll the luck'...he owns the rights to "whoooawhoooawhooawhoooa"

Tim, you are definitely right on about that Rod Stewart lick.

on a similar note, does anyone else find Suffocation Keep to be reminiscent of Broken Social Scene's 'Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl' (it's on You Forgot it in People)? Just thought I'd throw that out there..

Don't forget, Bach needs credit for Sometimes There's Wine, too. ;)

I think Brad pretty much admitted to ripping BSS of in the middle of paper birds:

"Your head is cracked, your teeth are scratched, talkin' trash, under your breath"

How about Even Rats (the hot part, not the Rod Stewart part) vs. Broken Social Scene's KC Accidental (same album)? How about Brad stealing "They crush the kiss" from the same tune?

Chicken v. Egg?
Cosmic soup?
Only as good as what you steal?

yeah, i always noticed the anthem influence on paper birds. looks like the BSS song cause=time also may have influenced paper birds. the line "this is the blood i love to share" became "it's the blood i want to shed"...i may be stretching it at this point though.

i believe it was lennon who said "an amateur borrows and a professional steals"

I thought he was the one who said:

"look for the person who will benefit. And you will, uh, you know, you'll, uh, you know what I'm trying to say--".

Or was that John Goodman?
