If I Didn't Love You

Sad Songs isn't all that sad really. It's just me and guitar singing
thirteen songs. I recorded it at home using one microphone. Several
songs on it were an experiment where I would write a poem really fast
stream of thought style. Then I would find a simple guitar pattern &
a melody that fit the pattern of the words. Then! I would record the first
time I sung it. Three songs are the recording of the first time that
the song was ever sung. One of them is still my favorite song on the disc. lyrics incomplete, almost there
Lord Lord Lord

I can call her on the phone
and she's out there on her own
but I can't think of the right words to say.
There's no woman anywhere
next to her could compare
and I never will believe she slipped away.

She'll meet another
and I know how hard he'll fall.
He's already someone I can't stand.
How could he ever know?
Before we was even grown
she put my love in her hand.

Some days I wish her well.
Some nights I pray to tell
the Lord the sweet words to bring her home.
If at last she does refuse,
we'll both have a good excuse,
me for drinkin, her for bein on her own.

Summer of My Fall

If a woman wants the moon she takes the man in it.
If a woman wants the world she looks away.
A woman's smile is like the Mayflower sailing on April rain.
A woman's love is like a lifetime.
Keeps on going even after its gone.
All I know of time and distance, I learned
the day she said, so long.

CHORUS
I opened the door, I opened the window,
she came through the wall.
It was the winter of her spring.
It was the summer of my fall.

A woman's body's overflowing.
An uncharted ocean, to be shore
I laid down beside her
and sank drowning onto heaven's floor.
A woman's heart is overwhelming
like a painting of It All,
everything that was or ever will be
just hanging on the wall.

CHORUS

A woman needs no explanation.
All she needs is love that's true.
Sometimes she finds it where you'd least expect it,
deep down inside of you.
Man, you better duck and cover.
Man, you better drop and roll.
There's just too much time and distance.
There's just too much you don't know.

CHORUS

The Mean Time

why do we need such awful noise
of a night please tell me boys
sometimes I think I might just
fill the void forever.
Why does such a racket calm us down,
why don't such pictures make us weep,
why do I need the tv on to get to sleep?
Somewhere my brothers wonder where...
somewhere my sisters wonder where
I am and there's a fire there
amidst their singing.
For everything this town has to boast.
No finer town coast to coast.
Still, I'm a stranger to most
of my upbringing.
There's a call for me on the styrofoam.
There's a holy horse down by the drive.
I am still that stained glass child
who was taken by his family
by the hand to He
who talks of a kingdom come
to be.
And if you see those angels now
you must be crazy, if you hear
those angels sing,
tell them I am here
in the Meantime
waiting.

Basket Fulls

Why doesn't He want me to get it
then gives it to me in basketfulls.
How come these days like horses.
How go these days like bulls.
Somewhere in amazing grace
a young man turns fifty-four.
Only we can make a diamond.
Only we go door to door.

Yea Yeahy

All I ever wanted was hand to mouth.
To live off the land somewhere in the sounth.
To have a little garden and a child or two.
And a little lady sayin I Love You.
Here I am waiting tables, my shift is hardly through.

There's indians in picture books dancin for the rain.
There's pioneers in rowboats off the coast of Spain.
They're chasing down the buffalo, falling manly in the plain.
Being held by mother earth and calling her by name.
Only the seven-eleven's open, I got pockets full of change.

Do you remember back when dinner took all day.
When grandma played the banjo and you'd sit and sway.
When night was lit by lamplight and the flicker of flame.
And ten miles was quite a ways.
I got a slurpee and a hotdog and a long look on my face.

I hear the revolutions still being fought it's not too late.
I hear that revoltuion is a return to a previous state.
Either by the hippies who only take what they need
or by those who pollute the world with their greed.
I shall be delivered my dream indeed.

I Hate Love

In my heart, the moment I could tell
she was beautiful, the world fell
and I didn't rise but sank downward,
downward, downward down.
And if I had cried
I would surely have drowned
All because i had nothing to trust,
I fell without thinking
thinking I hate love.

Desire always enters at an angle.
Catches the light just so.
Few know that if you step to the side,
love dies, love dies, love dies, I'm sure.
And I don't want to despise her.
I don't want to be there
when she fills me with disgust
just because she's so sweet,
I hate love.

How the hell am I
supposed to fall for an angel?
It just don't somehow seem true.
She says it's good to be tangled
up in blue, up in blue, up in blue.
I can't argue. I love her. I do.
It's just when the earth falls.
It's all the mothwing dust.
It's just a matter of time
and it's all because of lust
but I hate love.

If I Didn't Love You

If I didn't love you,
where would you be?
Would you be close?
Would you be far from me?
If I, I didn't love you,
Would you cross the ocean to the stars?
Would you stay right where you are?
Would you become a completely different girl
In some completely different world?

If I didn't love you?
What would you say if I asked you
To dance
The night away?
If I didn't love you,
Would you sleep with different dreams
Full of things I've never even seen?
Would you become a completely different girl
In some completely different world?

If I didn't love you,
Where would you be?
Would you be close?
Would you be far from me?
If I didn't love you,
Would you vanish into thin air?
Would you find magic there?
Would you become a completely different girl
In some completely different world
if I didn't love you?

I Know
I know each town is two towns,
one full of love, one full of hate-
I know which town is up to me
as I enter through the gate.
I know that I am lonely.
I know I couldn't be true.
I know that there are madmen.
I know I could be one too.
I know I know I know I know I know
I know the rivers poisoned
I know the child is innocent.
I know that there were gypsy's here
and that most of 'em up and went.
I know that life's in the balance
you can't cut the good and bad in half,
I know you just plain don't desire
what you know you have.
I know I know I know I know
I know that one sweet honey
and I'll be rollin in the morning glee,
I'll be rollin in the we hours
just her and me.
I know that power is a great inspiration
and just how small a man can be.
I know that the truth
is whatever sets you free.
i know i know i know i know
I know that math is a light
shining on all the musics of thought.
I know that this debt aint right-
I know my educations bought.
I know deep down people are scared
I know happy people are high.
I know a sinner's close to God,
I know a saint's always a lie.
I Know I know I know I know
I know that grace is always there.
That it is I who comes and goes.
From the Buddha to the ball game,
it's the flow great art froze.
I know that the good songs come
when the mind is gone.
I know the ice is melting.
I know nothing's wrong.
I know i know i know i know

You Don't Have to Say You're Sorry(til ya go)

Baby you might ruin me
the way you been undoin me
turnin me into something
I don't know.
You been bringing me to my senses.
You'll be leaving me defenseless,
but you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

I like the way these mornings taste.
I like living without haste.
I like the way we kiss each other slow.
Come one morning I'll awaken,
a sweet dream will have been taken.
But you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

You don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.
Don't have to worry about me, I love you so.
No no no don't apologize.
I see the sadness in your eyes.
you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

Girl I been alone so long,
I'd grown tired of the song
and dance that came with the show.
I mean the showing of your hand
to someone who just can't understand-
but you, you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

You don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.
Don't have to worry about me, I love you so.
I love the way I feel tonite.
Don't you spoil my delight.
You don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

Baby you're like sparklin wine
still clinging to the vine
and Yes it breaks my heart to never know.
Just leave your candles by the bath
melted on my Grapes of Wrath,
You don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.
Everyone needs to know
what kind of seeds there are to sow
and it it's hard not to reap what doesn't grow.
Perhaps I said it wrong.
Perhaps you stayed too long.
But you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

You don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.
Don't have to worry about me, I love you so.
No no no don't apologize.
I love the sadness in your eyes.
you don't have to say you're sorry
til ya go.

At least the chords are on Nathan's site. I mean Percy Boyd's site. And with the lyrics and music to boot!

are the lyrics to "fat king of gods" in there? if so, i'd be interested in seeing them. the only ones posted have some mistakes and the recordings i have have some spots where words are not discernible.

the fat king of gods, the breaker of bones
owns everything you see for endless miles
and the talk of revolution vanished under stone
still the mystic see him tremblin' and smiles

liberty's children build prison on prison
and try to rid us of violence with bombs
anyone who goes where the wild wind blows
knows where we'd be without our loving moms

I know that might sound to dainty, still I'd repeat it
for even the slightest truth shall never be defeated
and it's a far cry at least from the daily deceit
that we play and we play like its stuck on repeat

peace has no leaders to play it's cards
and peace may play it's own leaders' price
but it's tomb will be empty as it flows from the bards
ringing true like the best tune of advice

slowly but surely the world revolves
and Grace will be her own resolve
and she will dance in every chance aloft
till all of the world's problems are solved

as the capitalist masturbates, dreaming of Rand
and the philsopher wonders what he won't be when he's dead
and the artist asks God to flow from his hands
and the pacifist asks Hitler, "Well, what if I said...?"

and the journalist keeps his day job waving like the seed (sea?)
like a parade of princesses down the middle of Main
and the one they locked up for feelin' too free
he'll never stop laughing at those ridiculous chains

from the war on this to the war on that
has spun the frayed fabric of our modern day blues
born in a rental and pried from our neighbor
and our fears and our frights are labelled by hues

but what for the child with the dream that comes
that always comes to the innocent heart
the one that says, "We've always done
that which you are about to start"?

perhaps destiny's too tedious for tongues wild as these
and freedom's to mysterious when you're down on your knees
but what's been the downfall of all proud societies?
who knows the words?
let's sing it drunkenly!!!

please...
let's sing it drunkenly!!! (repeat)
