Sleepy Head [Nathan and Brad]

Post: # 8055Post Cleantone »

Sleepy Head

this morning I went straight to the mountain and there I rose from sleep
to the pounding of a thousand hearts dancing light on their feet
I walked on my hands spun on my head puffed away my sins
I stepped barefoot from my bed right into ducking jugglin’ pins

rise and shine sleepy head
up and at ’em out of bed
the day is a new
and loves been looking for you
rub your eyes you've got something to do
you're a miracle boy

how could I been so afraid so lost last night inside myself
how could the sun shine so today, like there’s love and nothing else
I've been broke so many ways that whatever I hold just spills
but just maybe like the morning rays of sun across the hills

rise and shine sleepy head
up and at ’em out of bed
the day is a new
and loves been looking for you
rub your eyes you've got something to do
you're a miracle boy

I was stuck inside my head but life pulled me right from bed
saying your just asleep you are not dead and like momma always said

rise and shine sleepy head
up and at ’em out of bed
the day is a new
and loves been looking for you
rub your eyes you've got something to do
you're a miracle boy

thanks for reminding me to change it. The tune was origionally called Rise and Shine when I heard it first. All the setlists were being posted as Sleepy Head, so I assumed it was changed. There is a little more to the story but the end result is it being called Rise and Shine (Sleepy Head).

perfect, the best of both worlds...
:D

it's such a beautiful tune... sounds old and new all at the same time, as cozy as a soft ole blanket or your favorite pair of jeans, as inspiring and breath-catching as a new love...
the first time i heard it, i wasn't at all sure i hadn't heard it before, so instantly familiar...

Update. For the sake of simplicity it shall remain Sleepyhead. Origionally Rise and Shine, then mistakenly called Sleepy Head on the EP, then Nathan said lets go with Rise and Shine (Sleepyhead), now reverting to Sleepyhead.

I stepped barefoot from my bed right into ducking jugglin’ pins

does anyone know what ducking jugglin' pins could be?

also, if someone has chords for this i'd love to have em. seems like a good one to play for little ones
you know our love will not fade away

my vote goes to jugglers being on "the hill" in montreal where all the freaks fly their flag.....or toss juggling pins.

nathan mentioned at the San Francisco SMMD show this past november that "the hill" in montreal was exactly what he needed one morning after a shitty night out. Brad and Andrew got him out of bed and took him to the freaks....

i play it G C G (verses)
with C D C at the chorus,
there's a C walkdown to the G...
back to D...

er, here:

G..........................G...........................................G.........C.............G.....
this morning I went straight to the mountain and there I rose from sleep
to the pounding of a thousand hearts dancing light on their feet
I walked on my hands spun on my head puffed away my sins
I stepped barefoot from my bed right into ducking jugglin’ pins

............C........D....................
rise and shine.......sleepy head
C... (walk down to)..G..............
.......up and at ’em.......out of bed
.................D....
the day is a new
.......................................C
and loves been looking for you
C.....................(walk down to...).........G
rub your eyes you've got something to do
........................D
you're a miracle boy

(silly thing wouldn't post my spacings so had to put all those .... in... ah well, you get the gist)
