Thanks Booty! streaming hi rez doesn't work will on my "internet" computer. I'll revisit that on another one soon. Which some of that tour got recorded. First East Coast SMMD that I couldn't make. I signed up to Vimeo and added so far one video. Both google and youtube have been giving me trouble keeping a widescreen ratio.

Check out Airplane/Primitive from 6.27.07 in Philly.

Check out As The Crow Flies from 4.22.08 in Fall River.

I still have all the files, but no real time or bandwidth to host the ftp anymore. If you want to host one I'll gladly copy the files onto a hard drive or something for you..

How about a hosting plan?

I've been looking at Site 5 for some time now, thinking of switching SlipLive over there. "Unlimited space" sounds like something we all need, and I know their network bandwidth is far beyond what any of us can provide at home.

I'll hook this up if fellow tapers, systems engineers and webmasters want to help. We can create a shared environment so people can post shows to the community.

What's a good domain name? LiveShows.org? I think we can grow this beyond the Slip. [oops...that's taken, and liveshows.com is a porn site...guess we'll have to get creative with a domain name]

Jason, I just got a new TB drive on eSATA I can bring up when I visit on 10/10 and leave it with you long enough to copy everything...or do I need 2 TB or how much? Then I can upload from here and minimize your work time. Also if you want to go that route, let me know your fastest disk interface...I also have FW800 and can get a drive with the interface that works for you.

P.S.: When the drive is uploaded to a hosting site, we can send the drive around so people can create mirrors (at home or hosted). This lets us distribute bandwidth and that can also be virtualized.

Sounds good except for the part about growing it beyond Slip. There are a million music sites, some general and some for different bands, but there is only one site still standing for Slip fans and it is one of the reasons I love this place. We do manage to discuss a lot of different types of music but what brings us together is a shared love of The Slip and I would be sad if that were to change...

i agree. maybe you'd incorporate SMMD into a little more, since that seems to be what they're focusing on now, but to make it a general music board/site, would be defeating the point a little bit.

also, if it ends up that a lot of good live shows are hosted on the Slip/SMMD site, it could end up attracting more people to a "Slip" site, instead of just some random music sharing site.

wouldn't necessarily be "defeating the point", i don't think.
if the primary focus and raison d'etre is the slip/smmd (can't leave out smmd), i don't see the harm in including other shows discovered/enjoyed by slip fans... sharing the love, and potentially turn folks of to new stuff. just as we discuss other music here. including other things doesn't automatically turn it into another random music site...

and besides which, the inclusion of other music also increases the odds of turning new folks on to the slip as well...

For me the issue is really definition. If this becomes a music board with some Slip and Davis stuff on it I think it could get easily lost in the shuffle and lose its identity. If it is a Slip/SMMD focused board with discussion of other music I think it retains the focus and it is a good idea. Fact is I am not terribly sure how the latter idea would differ much from what we have now.

If we did switch to something like liveshows.com (I know it is taken but just for discussion purposes) how or why would a new user come here to look for Slip or Davis info? I for one still like the sliplive.com URL...

Also most other bands big or small have a fansite or a few focused on that band or artist. If we did branch out into a more generic music site who would be carrying the torch for The Slip?
